CDC recommendations for staying healthy from COVID-19

Your safety is of the upmost importance to us at Take Stock in College. You have probably heard a lot about the worldwide spread of the Corona Virus (COVID-19). It is important you know the facts and have access to the most up to date, correct information regarding the disease, how it is spread, and what to do if it is contracted.

Please read the following guide to help keep yourself safe! The below information is all provided by the Center for Disease Control. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself on the symptoms, prevention measures, and illness protocols necessary to limiting the spread of COVID-19.

Symptoms of Corona Virus have been known to develop 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. They include cold or flu-like symptoms such as:

To avoid contracting Corona virus, the CDC recommends that you:

  1. Limit your presence in public spaces.
According to the CDC, the best way to stay safe from Corona Virus 2019 (COVID-19) is to limit your exposure. This is why so many universities, businesses, and community events are closing for the near future.

In accordance with this recommended safety measure, Take Stock in College is suspending all in-person events and club sessions and will be in touch about scheduling virtual meet ups. Keep an eye on www.takestockconnect.com for details!
  2. Wash your hands frequently.
You want to wash your hands to the wrist several times a day.  When you wash, be sure to scrub for at least 20 seconds. Need help keeping track? Sing the “happy birthday” song to yourself twice before rinsing.
  3. If you can’t get to a sink and antibacterial soap, then use hand sanitizer.
You need to use a brand that has AT LEAST 60% alcohol to kill the germs. Apply a dime-sized amount to your hands, and rub them together until they feel dry.
  4. Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
While you should be washing your hands several times a day, it is important to be aware of how you interact with your hands between washes. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth if you haven’t recently sterilized.
  • Disinfect your phone and other common surfaces a few times a day.
Make sure you are using products that will do the trick by reading this handy guide.

If you get sick, the CDC recommends that you:

  1. Seek medical attention.
Most doctor’s offices are requesting you call ahead and let them know if you need to be tested for COVID-19 so they can limit your exposure to the other patients in the waiting room.

  2. Stay home from work and school.
Remember, in most cases COVID-19 looks like the common cold. So if you start showing symptoms, don’t take a chance! Stay home from school and work until your symptoms subside.

  3. Wear a mask.
You only need to wear a mask if you are sick, or if you are caring for someone else who is sick and cannot wear a mask themselves (like a young child).
